The Marathi Abhyas Kendra (MAK), a non-government organisation working for the promotion and protection of Marathi language, has taken an initiative to mobilise leaders from opposition parties to audit the inaction of the BJP-led government in Maharashtra on various fronts and prepare a roadmap for the mobilisation of public support against the government.

A meeting is being organised on April 1 which is being attended by BJP's former ally Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana (SSS), Congress, Nationalist Congress Party, All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, Bharatiya Republican Party-Bahujan Mahasangh, Communist Party of India, Janata Dal (secular), Aam Aadmi Party, Bahujan Republic Socialist Party and Dharmarjya Party. MAK's move comes at a time when Congress, NCP, and like-minded parties are currently engaged to build up an anti-BJP front in the state in the run-up to the Lok Sabha and state assembly elections slated for 2019.

MAK founder Dr Deepak Pawar told DNA, "The state government in its three-and-half-year rule is busy in event management. Far too little has been done on the ground. BJP's poll promise of "achhe din" has proven to be fiction.

The government's performance in the fields of agriculture, education, health, employment, and infrastructure development has been quite miserable and therefore MAK took the lead to mobilise various political parties to expose the government's failure." He said that the objective of the ensuing meeting on April 1 is to unitedly take on the government instead of scattered efforts by individual parties.

Pawar said the issue of Marathi language and its development is a political one and it cannot be delinked with education, agriculture, and health. They are interconnected and therefore an attempt is being made to build a front against the government on these issues and mobilise support from the members of the public at large.
