NGO Masoom, which started a petition on change.org with a single signature, now have a large number of supporters to get justice to save night schools. The new government resolution (GR) has re-organised the allocation of teachers and as a result of this night schools will have a reduced number of teachers.

According to the NGO's petition, if subject teachers are taken away, students may reduce in schools. If this happens, then night schools will be shut by the government. Many NGOs run night schools for students who earn and learn. In Maharashtra, there are 182 night schools and 139 out of these are in Mumbai alone. The petition was started on Sunday.

Rahul Suvarna, advocacy head, Masoom, said, "The petition was started by me on Sunday and have got very good response in two days. We are also taking signatures from night school students and parents and we have successfully collected 3,000 till now. We fear if this GR is made applicable to night schools, then we will lose at least two to three subject teachers. One or two teachers cannot teach all subjects. Night schools are for all those needy students who cannot attend day school and work in day time to support their family and to achieve their dream they join night schools."

Echoing the sentiments of Suvarna, retired night school principal Ankush Jagdale said, "Till now, the GR that were applicable to day schools were never made applicable to night schools. We are going to appeal our education minister Vinod Tawde to exclude at least night schools from this GR."

On August 1, the Shikshak Bharti, Chattra Bharti along with Maharashtra Night School Association will hold a Battery Morcha at Mantralaya.
