I used to study till late in the night, and didn't join any classes, says Shailesh Mandlik
Shailesh Mandlik, a student of the Shailendra Education Society in Dahisar scored 91 per cent in the SSC board exams this year. Braving many hurdles, Shailesh has made his family proud. His father lost his life to jaundice, after which the family moved to Dahisar from Dapoli village, Ratnagiri District.
Talking about his struggle, Shailesh said, "My father, Sharad Mandlik used to farm in Dapoli village and earn money for us, but he passed away in 2005. After that, we moved to Dahisar city, where my two older brothers and I took admission in Shailendra Education Society. The school's principal, Sudham Kumbhar helped us with admissions as he understood our financial situation. My mother started work as a maid in several houses to cover our household expenses, and my older brother, Shekhar left college to work in a hotel to support her. My mother has done a lot for us since we moved. I used to study till late in the night, and didn't join any classes. My school teachers were always there to guide me, for which I am eternally grateful. I want to pursue commerce and become a Chartered Accountant and make my family and teachers proud."
Sharada Mandlik, Shailesh's mother said, " When we shifted to Dahisar, we faced tremendous difficulties. Now Shailesh has scored 91 per cent and I am very proud of him. He has always been a bright student. I encouraged him to continue his studies and leave the financial problems to me, but he still worked as a paper distributor and earned Rs 1,000 a month to help me. I want to see him achieve his goal of becoming a CA. We would appreciate any kind of help."
