Consider this as an eid gift from the WR to commuters. The most-awaited rake finally entered the Virar car shed on Wednesday.
Maharashtra Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) and Southern Railway had flagged off the new white and pink local train from Chennai’s Integral Coach Factory on October 1. However, owing to the unrest in Andhra Pradesh over creation of Telangana and also because of the cyclone threat, the rake, which was supposed to reach Mumbai on October 8, got delayed.
The train is one of the 72 new ones bought by the MRVC. The seats have been modified to decrease their width for more leg and standing space. While the doors of the train are much trendier, side handles have been designed on both sides for the convenience of women and senior citizens.
Manufactured by Bombardier in Chennai, the train can run at a speed of 130kmph.
An engineer in Virar car shed said, “The new rake is much trendier and has got a spacious cabin for the motor van. The technology has been enhanced for checking signals and train speed.
Commuters will have a comfortable journey in it.”
