The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has decided to introduce a series of changes to improve the healthcare delivery system in the satellite city. In a recently held meeting, NMMC decided that In Patient Departments (IPD) will be started at the civic hospital in Vashi and four mother and child hospitals run by the corporation. Medical facilities will be upgraded at the hospitals in Airoli and Nerul and another hospital will be constructed in Belapur.
NMMC is now looking to outsource X-ray, sonography, CT scan, MRI scans, Pathology lab and the blood banks in civic hospitals managed by it. Deepak Paropkari, head of NMMC’s medical department, said that apart from the medical services, the cremation ground at Kopar Khairane’s Bonkode village will also be repaired and new features will be added to the structure, which is in a bad condition.
The area, where cremation is conducted, will get a new RCC shed, and the walls will be rebuilt. There are plans to designate a new area as a burial ground also. Nearly Rs 1.5 crore has been ear-marked for the project.
