To fulfil the long overdue demand of passengers and provide faster and convenient connectivity to passengers between Delhi and Mumbai, the Indian Railways will operate a new, faster Rajdhani Express from October 16. This train will cut down travel time between the two metropolitan cities by more than 2 hours. It will start from Bandra Terminus (BDTS) to Hazrat Nizamuddin (HZM) stations in Delhi. The other Rajdhani that originates from Mumbai Central and August Kranti will continue to run as is.

This train will take 13 hrs and 55 minutes instead of the regular 16 hrs that it takes. The railway officials said that the average train speeds have been increased to 130kmph from the current 110kmph. The new service will be a tri-weekly special service with only one rake comprising of 18 coaches. The train will only stop at Kota, Vadodara and Surat stations.

The new train would not have flexi fares, where prices of tickets would jump depending on the demand, on booking a ticket. But it will still be at 20 per cent more than the base fare of all classes.
