The City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) has extended the deadline to open the tenders for allotting electrical and mechanical works for its proposed Navi Mumbai Metro project.

These works include laying of track, signalling, telecommunication, automatic fare, and rolling stock (coaches), for which the Cidco had invited tenders.

“We have decided to extend the deadline to October 30, owing to poor response from bidders. We had previously set September 30 as the deadline, but extended it to October following some technical difficulties. Now, however, the bidders have sought more time to submit the details following which we had to extend the deadline yet again to October 30,” a senior Cidco official said.

The official added that they were all set to open the tenders on October 7, and since the tender is a big one, they had to postpone the same. In all, six major consortiums have shown interest in carrying out the electrical and mechanical work of the first phase of the metro work.

Nine major companies/consortiums expressed their interest in the project to Cidco, and of these, the latter will shortlist any six; at the end of it the contract would be awarded to only one. The contract includes carrying out of both mechanical as well as electrical works. The companies that are likely to be shortlisted are the joint venture of Hyundai Rotem, Bafour Betty and Nippon, the consortium of Siemens AG and Siemens India, L&T Consortium, Ansaldo STS, ALSTOM, and Bombardier Transportation.

“The most important criteria we had put up before the companies bidding for the work was that the company/consortium should have done metro work of at least 10km and the same should have been operational for minimum two years. Based on this, we will be opening the bids on September 30 and based on the pre-qualification, technical and financial bids, the contract will be awarded to the most deserving company/consortium,” Kamble said. The estimated cost of this technical work is Rs1,020 crore and the corporation’s aim is to complete the process by January 2014.

The work on the first phase of the metro project between Belapur-Kharghar-Taloja- Pendhar is on, wherein 11.10km metro line will be laid. The line will have 11 stations and the estimated cost to be incurred by the planning agency in the phase I will be Rs1,985 crore. The phase II of the metro work will be carried out between MIDC Taloja-Kalamboli-Khandeshwar, and it is proposed to be extended up to the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). The work to link Pendhar-Taloja will form the third stage of the phase I work.
