Nepal needs doctors from the Mumbai

Nepal can use as many doctors and nurses as it can , and city NGO Doctors For You (DFY) on Monday sent a team of four doctors to Kathmandu. "Our doctors have reached Kathmandu. We will receive a ground report by Tuesday and send a team of doctors to carry out relief work. Currently 15 doctors from Mumbai and 10 others from Delhi and Kerala, and three from US, UK and Singapore are on standby," said Dr Ravikant Singh, founder member, DFY.

"We need more doctors to enroll for immediate relief work," said Singh. "We will focus on aid for pregnant ladies. We need gynaecologists and neonatalogists to focus on reproductive health services and young children's nutrition."

"The death toll can be expected to rise up to 10,000. Our long-term relief operations will go on for two years," said Singh.

It is working with United Nations Officer for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) and Nepal Government for rehabilitation. DFY has managed to mobilize medicines and health equipment worth Rs20 lakh. "In the next two years, funds worth up to Rs5 crore will have to be raised for hospitals etc," said Singh.

Mira Road-based Bhakti Vedanta Hospital sent seven doctors and six paramedics on Monday to Delhi. "With aid of ISCKON temple, they will set up tents in the massively affected places," said Dr G Venkatraman, Bhakti Vedanta Hospital.
