The current schedule of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2018 and the Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (MHT-CET) for Engineering and Pharmacy has left thousands of students and parents in the state worried as both the exams are scheduled for the same day — May 10.

While the state CET cell has declared that it would conduct the Common Entrance Test for Engineering and Pharmacy on May 10, 2018, a notification released by the Medical Council of India states that the NEET might be conducted across centres in the country on the same date that is May 10, leaving thousands of aspirants who want to take both these exams in a state of panic.

While the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) that conducts NEET is yet to come up with an official notification regarding the exam, aspirants are now worried that the dates might clash as per the tentative notification.

"If the dates clash, students would be under tremendous stress of missing either of the two exams," said Gaurag Pradhan, an aspirant from the city.

Parents have now appealed to the state to change the exam dates to avoid confusion at the last minute. "Many students who wish to try pharmacy and medicine at the same time or who are unsure about doing medical or engineering appear for both exams. They are all under stress currently," said a city-based parent.

Officials at the state CET cell said that a decision on rescheduling would only be made if the dates clash as per the official NEET notification.

Over 1.5 lakh students take the NEET from the state every year while over 3.5 lakh students take the MHT-CET.
