A session court sentenced 24-year-old Nagesh Gholap to life imprisonment holding him guilty for a gory case of murder and rape of a minor in January this year. Murder and rape goes in the right order since it turned out to be a case of necrophilia.

The accused first held the victim’s head down in a bucket of water and raped her when she fell unconscious, assuming she was dead. Later as she started gaining consciousness, he beat her to death with a rod and sodomised her.

The case dates back to the morning of January 8, 2010 when the victim went missing. She was allegedly lured by the accused, Gholap, into a neighbour’s empty ground floor flat.

The prosecution examined 12 witnesses including the neighbour and the magistrate before whom the accused had confessed to the crime. While the prosecution had sought death sentence for the accused, additional sessions Judge S Malpani Pawar sentenced Gholap to life imprisonment for murder, rape and unnatural sex.

However, Rajendra Javanjal, watching advocate for the case stressed that the case wouldn’t end here. “We will certainly move to high court for enhancement of the punishment. He must get a death sentence for such a heinous act. We will wait for the order copy and move to High Court by first week of January”, he said.

Mother of the victim who was present in the court said, “I can’t forget our restless search for my daughter and how all I got to see at the end of it were her legs peeping from the gunny bag she was stuffed in. He deserves nothing less than death.”
