NCP releases manifesto; tries to woo farmers, youths and backward categories

Attempting to woo farmers, youths and other sections of the society, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi's 145th birth anniversary released its election manifesto for the upcoming October 15 Maharashtra assembly polls. The NCP has given special attention on education, employment, business and water in its manifesto. 

Releasing its manifesto, NCP president Sunil Tatkare said that since the party is contesting the assembly polls without any alliance, it has put forth the state on a higher growth trajectory. He also claimed that 99% of issues promised in the 2009 manifesto have been fulfilled.

“This manifesto is a blend of completed works from last manifesto and works to be done. This manifesto depicts objectives and policies of the party and one should not consider it as a budget,” said senior NCP leader Dilip Walse Patil.

However, when asked about the delay in establishing the Shivaji Maharaj statue in the Arabic sea, Tatkare said, “The work process got delayed due to delay in getting permission from the Union Environment ministry. The new plan has got the permission and the work will soon start."

Here are the highlights of the NCP's manifesto an issues promised to fulfill.

Pension will be given to farm labourers.

60% of farming will be brought under drip and spray irrigation, and for that grant provision will be increased up to 75%.

- Provision of Rs 2,000 crore will be made for the development of minorities.

Considering the success of Monorail in Mumbai, it will be started in Aurangabad, Nashik and Nagpur.

In the next phase of connecting all districts with four lanes highways, an expressway of 1,000 kilometres will be developed. 

- Electricity connection will be provided for farm pumps in the next five years to all those who will demand.

A digital smart classroom will be established in every school.

Free Wi-Fi facility would be provided in each colleges of the state.

Steps would be taken to make universities international. 

State would be made child labour-free in the next five years and Right to Education act will be accurately  implemented.

A separate department will be established for other backward classes (OBC) in Mantralaya.

To collect garbage, a mechanism will be established in villages with a population of more than 5000 people.

- Power from non-conventional sources of energy production in the state will be doubled.

To provide houses to police personnel, 10 acres of land would be made available in Mumbai.

A statue of Shivaji Maharaj and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar would be established in Arabic sea and Chaitya Bhumi respectively.

Attempt will be made to connect each district with airports

Support will be given for 33% reservation in Legislative Assembly and Lok Sabha

- Hostels will be built for working women

- Special bus facility for women will be made available on some roads in major cities
