Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday announced that NCP MLA from Mohol in Solapur district Ramesh Kadam will be arrested soon in connection with the scam in Lokshaahir Annabhau Sathe Vikas Mahamandal. The government will also inquire into the charge that he not only used the Mahamandal's money for himself but also gave it to other leaders.

The state assembly witnessed uproar during the question hour on Friday, when MLAs from both the treasury benches and opposition staged demonstrations inside the House by waiving banners and shouting slogans. While the treasury benches demanded Kadam's arrest, the opposition pressed for resignation of four ministers involved in alleged scams.

The House was adjourned twice during the question hour, after which the calling attention motion regarding the alleged Rs385-crore Mahamandal scam was taken up. Forty-two MLAs from all parties except the NCP gave the motion, which said Kadam had given Rs132 crore to those factories where he himself was the chairman. The motion also said Rs61.74 crore was given to one single weaving mill from Paithan, Rs30 crore to one Maitrey Sugar Association, and Rs59 crore to one Joshaba Madhyawarti Grahak Sahakari Sanstha in Borivli, besides 57 cars being provided to his friends and colleagues by violating rules.

The motion also brought the information on record of the House that Rs55 crore was withdrawn from six offices of the Mahamandal in Beed, Jalna, Parbhani, Hingoli, Buldhana and Bhandara as per orders given by the chairman to unknown people.

Fadnavis, in response, said the government will inquire into all these allegations. The state Crime Investigation Department had last week registered an FIR against Kadam.

Tawde and Jayant Patil at loggerheads
Retaliating to the allegation on his educational qualifications, education minister Vinod Tawde said he did not get the opportunity to study abroad as his father was a Mhada employee and did not hail from a wealthy family, unlike former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan or former minister Jayant Patil. Otherwise, I too would have studied abroad, Tawde said. Patil, amidst pandemonium, then retorted, "The issue is not where you studied, but whether your degree is bogus or not."

Oppn distributes chikki
Despite the fact that the opposition did not bring the discussion on corruption and ministers involved in alleged scams under rule 297 on Thursday, which is the day for proposal from the opposition, it staged demonstrations on the steps of Vidhan Bhavan building. Opposition MLAs distributed chikki with the brand name Panku, which is the nickname of minister for women and child development Pankaja Munde, but the price printed on the packet was Rs80 crore.
