Miffed with the defence minister's recent statement about 'killing terrorists with terrorists', NCP leader Jitendra Awhad has erected a banner in Thane. The hoarding essentially states that the Union government has a vacancy for terrorists, and has Manohar Parrikar as the undersigned.

Installed at a prime location in Thane, a hoarding put up by Thane MLA Jitendra Awhad of the NCP reads: 'Government of India...Wanted terrorist to kill terrorist.' This act was in retaliation to defence minister Manohar Parrikar's recent statement which said: "Neutralise terrorists through terrorists".

About the hoarding at Harinivas Circle, Awhad said: "This is my way to protest the views put forth by him." Awhad's move to has not gone down well by residents, a majority of whom supported Parrikar's stand.

A resident, Prahlad Bhavekar said that the main objective should be to uproot terrorism. "If the formula by the defence minister works, then there's nothing wrong with that," he said, adding: "If Awhad has a better idea, then he should suggest it, rather than displaying a hoarding like that."

Siddhu Sawant, another resident, echoed Bhavekar's views, saying: "Terrorism is India's biggest problem. Rather than gaining political mileage in this situation, everyone should support and improve the idea."

Also residing in Thane, Vikrant Patil said that Awhad has been unable to control illegal activity in his constituencies Mumbra and Kalwa. "People voted for him so that he can take up their issues, but the city is still suffering from problems that need urgent attention. He should concentrate on working for his people leaving aside other issues," Patil said.

Activists and other residents too are of the opinion that Awhad's move is a 'cheap publicity stunt'. The MLA, however, said: "This (BJP) is a party that supports Sadhvi Pragya Singh and her ideology. This completely reflects in the way the party and its members think."

The large banner left even passersby stunned.

Joint commissioner of police, VV Laxminarayan said: "A case of defacement of property, and action against hoarding has been registered. The hoarding has been pulled down."
