Former Chief Minister of Maharashtra Prithviraj Chavan on Tuesday publicly slammed the NCP and said that the party had helped the Bharatiya Janata Party to bring president's rule in the state.

Placing blame on its former ally for their break-up, Prithviraj Chavan, who was addressing the first campaign rally in Tuljapur said, "NCP broke the alliance with us for the post of chief minister. They have always been thinking of personal benefits. In 1999, they were aspiring for the Prime Minister post and in 2014 for the chief minister's post."

He further said, "NCP not only broke the friendship and alliance, but also helped BJP in bringing President's rule in the state. In Jammu and Kashmir, the National Conference broke the alliance with Congress, but they did not withdraw support."

"NCP is giving secret support to BJP and the Narendra Modi government is handling Maharashtra state from Delhi," alleged Chavan.

Taking a dig at the Modi government, Chavan said, "Narendra Modi had promised that the inflation will go down and things will change, "Acche Din" (good days) will come, but where are the acche din?"

Pointing out the issue of Chinese incursions in Ladakh, he said, "Our prime minister is busy visiting foreign countries. When Chinese President Xi Jinping was visiting India, Modi was posing for pictures on a swing with him while incursions were taking place by Chinese troops in Arunachal Pradesh."

Prithviraj Chavan also criticised Modi for inaugurating UPA schemes and taking the credit. He said, "Modi has started 'Swacha Bharat Abhiyan', but the Nirmal Bharat scheme was already implemented long back by the UPA." Chavan also questioned the Modi government's reason behind shifting the Marine Police Academy from Palghar to Gujarat.

Addressing the rally, Chavan asked people to give him 145 seats for a stable and efficient government in Maharashtra and assured to work towards a much better future.
