Former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the NCP as he kick-started the Congress's campaign for the October 15 assembly elections from Tuljapur.

The senior Congress leader accused Sharad Pawar's party of being hand in glove with the BJP, which eventually led to the President's rule in Maharashtra. He said people will not forgive NCP for this sin.

Blaming NCP for snapping their 15-year-old tie-up, Chavan said, "The very birth of NCP was out of the ambition of its leadership to become the prime minister in 1999, and in 2014, they broke the alliance again for the ambition of its state leader for the post of the chief minister. The BJP-Sena alliance, which was 25 years old, also broke for the ambition of the CM's post."

Chavan said the NCP had a proxy understanding with the BJP. "People will not forgive them for letting the reigns of the state in the hands of the BJP-led government at the Center for the last 15 days through the President's rule.

Criticising the Union Government, Chavan said that a marketing campaign was run during the Lok Sabha elections. While people had made their choice, in a matter of three to four months, they have realised that there are no 'Acche din...' anywhere.

He said that the people had realised their mistake, but the prime minister was busy with foreign visits. When the PM was busy hosting the Chinese Premier, the Chinese Army was advancing into Ladakh territory, he said.

Seeking to highlight the work done by his government, Chavan said that Marathwada had many issues, including backlog of industrial development and long-pending demand of 25 TMC water of its quota.

He said that his government had started a few steps in fulfilling these demands and Aurangabad was now the part of Mumbai-Delhi industrial corridor. He blamed the BJP-Sena alliance for emptying the state coffer during its 'misrule' between 1995 and 1999. Chavan appealed the people of Marathwada to give a clear mandate in favour of Congress for clean and transparent Government which would deliver.

Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee President Manikrao Thakare, former Union Minister for Home Affairs Sushilkumar Shinde, former Chief Ministers Ashok Chavan and Narayan Rane, Patangrao Kadam, Harshawardhan Patil and several other senior leaders were present at the event.
