The flying squad of the Navi Mumbai Regional Transport Office (RTO) on Monday seized an allegedly illegally modified vehicle used for promotion of an energy drink giant, which was found abandoned on Palm Beach Road. In fact, officials said that they are aware that many such modified vehicles without necessary permissions are plying and are under the scanner.

According to Anandram Wagle, Motor Vehicle Inspector at Navi Mumbai RTO, a modified Maruti Swift car used for promotion of Red Bull was spotted on Palm Beach Road around 11.30 am. After he spotted it he returned with the flying squad. "The vehicle was clearly modified and the changes made were such that certain parts of the vehicle had been removed and there were unauthorised alterations to the original type approved Monocoque body shell (chassis) and structure of the altered and modified vehicle compromises the safety," he said, adding that this was a violation under section 207 of the Motor Vehicle Act 1988 and Section 12(b) of BMV Act 1958.

In fact, the flying squad informed the traffic police before towing the vehicle but even after a day there was no claimant for the vehicle due to which officials believe that the vehicle might have been abandoned. Using the registration plate number it has been found out that the vehicle is registered in the name of Red Bull India Pvt limited at Kakad chambers, Dr Annie Beasant Road, Worli.

"Modifying or making any changes to a vehicle that makes its structure different than that of the originally registered vehicle without necessary permission is not allowed as its risky. We have information about more such vehicles and once found we will surely check their documents and if found illegal we will seize them too," said Wagle, who has been known in the transport circles to crack many such cases.

Efforts were made to contact Red Bull but they could not be reached.
