Navi Mumbai: Part of high-tension wire falls on woman, critical

The Fortis Hospital in Mulund and the cost estimate of her treatment is around Rs 6 lakh. Now, her family is running from pillar to post for financial help.

Mrunal Mhadik, 56, a resident of Airoli sustained severe head injuries after a porcelain insulator from high-tension wire fell on her head. She has been admitted to the Fortis Hospital in Mulund and the cost estimate of her treatment is around Rs 6 lakh. Now, her family is running from pillar to post for financial help.

Mhadik sustained injuries while she was walking in Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s (NMMC) garden located at sector 4 in Airoli on August 2 evening. As per the FIR registered at Rabale police station, there was a spark in high tension followed by huge sound and a panel of porcelain insulator fell in the garden. Since Mhadik was walking in the garden, a portion of porcelain insulator also fell on her head. She fell unconscious with pool of blood. She was taken to Indrawai Hospital in Airoli and later shifted to Fortis hospital in Mulund as her injury was grave. 

As per the Fortis Hospital, the estimated cost of her treatment is around Rs 6.02 lakh as she needs surgery and long stay in hospital for close monitoring her health. 

Anil Mhadik, victim’s husband is a retired person while her son Rajdatt Mhadik is looking for a job after completing his MBA. “At present, my sister and wife are earning source and we are not in a condition to meet medical expenses,” said Rajdatt. He added that he had already written to all officials of MAHATRANSCO. 

The Rabale police have lodged a complaint under section 337 of IPC for causing hurt by act of endangering life or personal safety of others against MAHATRANSCO and NMMC both. 

Sanjay Godse, senior police inspector at Rabale police station said that they have sought details of maintenance of the high tension wire of the area from MAHATRANSCO.
