Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) administration is making the best use of election code of conduct period by organising various workshops for its officials and staff. The purpose behind holding such workshops is to update officials on latest knowledge and also to give platform to employees to present their innovative ideas. Since the election code of conduct is in force, regular meetings like the standing and general body are not taking place giving much needed time to the officials.'

"Every person comes up with innovative ideas. However, due to daily work pressure, there is very little time to develop these ideas. During the poll code period there are no meetings and therefore we are conducting workshops for the staff to improve their professional knowledge. Such workshops will certainly help officials in their day to day work," said municipal commissioner Abasaheb Jarhad during a workshop on public private partnership (PPP) held at civic head office in Belapur.

PPP expert Ajay Saxena, in his presentation, explained the policies adopted by the Maharashtra government for public private partnerships in various projects.

Saxena also pointed out loopholes in the system where the PPP projects have failed and underlined care that needs to be taken while implementing such projects. A workshop on effective disaster management will be organised on March 19. The Navi Mumbai civic body has been applauded for its disaster management work during the 2005 deluge and thereafter during monsoon season.

Still there is always scope for improvement and spreading awareness about disaster management. The workshop on disaster management will be addressed by former official of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Dr RV Sharma, who will brief the officials on the rising global temperature and climatic changes.

Attendees will also be addressed by AL Agarwal on how to read instructions on IMD website and take necessary measures. On March 21 will be a workshop on audit wherein retired state government official AB Sawant will guide officials about various aspects of auditing. "The workshops will help the exchange of ideas between civic officials and government level officials. This will help take civic work to newer heights," said Jarhad.
