Eighteen short films were screened at Dr DY Patil Auditorium on Monday as part of the road safety awareness campaign. All the short films on road safety were made by college students.
The winner of the short films competition will be announced at the closing ceremony of the fortnight long road safety campaign.

The Navi Mumbai traffic department organised the short films competition, based on the theme making travelling safe for motorists. A total of 58 entries were received of which 18 short films were screened by the traffic department.

“We have selected short films based on the subject and power of conveying message to masses about road safety,” an official from traffic department.

Famous Marathi film actors Ravi Jadhav and Nishikant Sadfule were the chief guests at the event and judged the short films.

“All the films screened here are great works by the students. They have really conveyed the message through the film,” said Jadhav.

Sadfule, who praised the effort of the students, said, “Even I was not so good at this age. They have shot good films.” Engineering and medical students of Dr DY Patil, ICLE’s College, SIES College, Oriental College, Tilak College, among others, participated in the short film competition.

“It has been observed that youths become the victim in most of the accidents as they drive fast. So we have decided to hold the short film competition for them,” said a traffic department official.
“The message should reach maximum youths, so that the number of accidents can be reduced,” said the official.  Winners will be announced on January 17 in Belapur.
