Two women, who were allegedly running flesh trade in a spa at Belapur's sector 11, have been arrested by the police on Friday. Four girls were also rescued from the spa.

Acting on a tip-off, the police raided Elegance Family Spa and Salon at Gautam Complex around 7.20pm. The arrested women have been identified as Akatai Rathod alias Maya, 34, a resident of Kharghar and Meera Kumbhare, 40, a resident of New Panvel. While Rathod was the owner of the spa, Kumbare worked as a manager.

"When we learnt about their illegal business, we sent two of our officials as fake customers to get more clues. After getting confirmed reports, we raided the spa," said Vijay Taide, police inspector from Belapur police station.

According to Taide, the spa has been operating since five months. "Two of rescued girls are from Darjeeling. Investigations are on to find out who sold the girls to the accused," he said.

The accused have been booked under sections 3, 4 and 5 of the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act, 1986. They were produced before the judicial court on Saturday afternoon.

If sources are to be believed, there are many other such spas in Navi Mumbai, which are directly involved in flesh trade. "Earlier, there were massage parlours in every nook and corner of city and they were running prostitution racket in the name of providing massage. They would reach out to their prospective clients though local newspapers and news channels and would lure them with massage for just Rs400 to Rs 600," said a source.

"In 2011, the then police commissioner Ahmad Javed banned all the massage parlours after dna of navi mumbai reported about it extensively. The city was free from this menace for over a year after that.

However since 2013, many 'spas and salon' have sprung up which are also involved in flesh trade," he said.

While the massage parlours would charge their clients just Rs400-Rs600, these spas are now charging anything between Rs 2,000-Rs 6,000. If the clients negotiate for the amount, they reportedly refer to their 'good relationship' with the local police which implies safety for 'doing anything and everything' at any point of time.
