After facing non-cooperation from housing societies in Navi Mumbai for not complying with the fire safety norms, the fire brigade department has come out with a notice asking all such societies to adhere to norms or be prepared to face action.

The action includes snapping of electricity and water connections.

“It is mandatory for every housing society in the satellite city to keep fire safety system in their complex operational. They will have to get the system checked by a licensed agency and will also have to submit a fitness certificate to the fire brigade department,” said a civic official, on the condition of anonymity.

He added, “The housing societies that have flouted fire safety norms have been issued notices.

However, it has come to the notice that most of the housing societies that have been served notices have failed to comply with the mandatory requirement of carrying out inspection by the authorised agency and submitting fire equipment fitness certificate to the fire brigade.”

The official added, “In case the housing societies fail to comply by the norms, we are authorised to snap water and power connections to the society. Also, the concerned society or individual will be liable to face punishment.”

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has therefore appealed to all housing societies in the satellite city to keep the fire safety system fully operational to prevent any loss of life and property.

The municipal corporation, which has Bronto skylift in its fleet, has capacity to tackle fire up to the height of 22 floors.
