Nashik sarpanches in gang-rape cases

In two separate cases, the police have arrested a sarpanch and a former sarpanch from Nashik District for rape.

In one case, the former sarpanch of Kanalad village in Niphad taluka and his accomplice have been arrested for raping a woman on January 28, 2012, on the pretext of dropping the victim to her home.

Taking advantage of the dark, they had allegedly raped her in Wadkadare Matha jungle.
In the second incident, Pramod Patil, the sarpanch of Nagarsool, was approached by a woman seeking a solution to a family feud.

Around three months ago, Patil, along with two others, Santosh Gadangal and a driver Kiran Nangade, took the victim to Yeola under the pretext of finding a lawyer to help her and raped her at a lodge.

A case was lodged against the three men on January 31, 2013, following which Santosh Gadangal was arrested. The other two are still absconding.

Both the accused have been remanded in police custody till February 2.
