The Nashik administration has sped up its drive against encroachment in Trimbakeshwar, considering that the Kumbh Mela is closing in. Kumbh Mela in the small temple town will be held with 10 Shaiva akhadas participating in it.

The anti-encroachment drive undertaken in the town for last two days has been successful as it has cleared spaces opening up the chowks. The kiosks around the main temple where vendors sold flowers, prasad and other such material have also been removed making the approach roads roads wider.

"People's participation has been voluntary and their co-operation in clearing bottlenecks and widening roads has helped the works in this town," stated sub divisional officer Balasaheb Waghchaure, who along with the CEO NM Nagare of the municipal council have been monitoring the situation.

The Telli galli is a narrow lane from where the shahi miravanuk, the procession of the sadhus for the holy bath, will proceed. On the plea of the administration, people in this lane voluntarily removed their built-in spaces on the verandahs to make way for people to stand to watch the procession.

"The lanes are narrow and the space in this town is less. We have to utilise all the space that we can to disperse the public and avoid congestions," Waghchaure said.
