Do you have a 'Narendra' or 'Arvind' or 'Rahul' in your name? If yes, thank the elections, for you might earn some cool discounts on your next air trip. With the poll fever catching up the entire nation, advertising brains seem to be working overtime to attract flyers.
"We decided to make the election season, something that is normally seen as a very serious time, fun and exciting! Those named Narendra or Arun, may have never realised that one day their name would save them a few precious bucks on their next holiday," said Rohit Khetrapal, co-founder of hotel portal Findmystay.com.
The portal has prepared a list of over 200 politicians with whom if a traveller's first name or surname matches, he/she can get a discount of up to Rs1000.
Similarly, Virgin Atlantic airline is offering all its passengers with a recognizable 'inked' finger a chance to enter a draw for prizes that include cabin upgrades, lounge access and gift hampers. All the passengers need to do is to vote before they travel on Virgin Atlantic's Delhi-London flight on April 10.
"We think it's very important that as many people as possible use their right to vote. This initiative is a way of celebrating everyone who's voted," said Stephen King, GM, Virgin Atlantic (India).
Similarly, at least 67 petrol pumps across Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon and Rohtak are planning to offer a 50-paise discount for the consumers flaunting an inked finger this poll season.
"Election is the fever of the season. So everybody is trying to exploit it in their own ways and at the same time promoting voting," Said Amit Shah, a Mulund-based image consultant.
