The swearing-in ceremony of the Maharashtra cabinet at Wankhede Stadium on Friday saw many among the politicians and the audience wearing Modi jackets.

Prime minister Narendra Modi, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, his cabinet colleagues Vinod Tawde, Mungantiwar and Vishnu Sawra, all wore Modi jackets. Most political leaders and audience too had these jackets. The main dais, VIP enclosure and the stadium too were flooded with Modi jackets of all hues.

People had stitched jackets of all shades of almost all colours, with prominent materials used varying from Khadi silk, silk, linen cotton, cotton, woolen and polyester.

Aatish Verma, one of the leading third generation designers located in Kalbadevi, who designs around thousands of jackets and chudidars, said: "Right from the time of the last Lok Sabha elections, orders for Modi jackets and kurtas have grown manifold. Of 10 customers, seven have been demanding Modi jackets and kurtas.

Vinod Shelar, local BJP corporator, said: "In my constituency, most of the party workers including me, have many pairs of Modi jackets and kurtas. Whenever there is a party event, they wear it."

Designer Lalit Gangoly from Charni Road said: "We have clients from across the globe. Now Modi jackets and kurta have crossed all boundaries and become very popular not only among the elderly, but among youngsters too. Every one wants to sail in the Modi boat."

Siddharth Kasyap, a 30-year-old singer and owner of a musical company, said: "I have as many as 50 Modi jackets and kurtas. I prefer to wear them on all occasions, from singing to music launch. My father is the BJP MLA from Ratlam. We both love to wear them as casuals as well as on all important occasions."

It may be recalled here that Narendra Modi in one of the channel interviews had said: "I myself design my dresses as per my liking and everyone likes them.

Amol Yadav, one of the bureaucrats, who prefer to wear jacket and chudidar kurta, said: "Nehru jacket is very popular globally and is still a fashion symbol worn by millions. Similarly, Modi jacket has created a wave all over, and would remain so in time to come."
