Former chief minister Narayan Rane and BJP National President Amit Shah will likely have a rendezvous in New Delhi on Monday and the million-dollar question everyone has one their mind is whether Rane will join the BJP or not.

The veteran leader hit the headlines last week when he quit the Congress and since then speculations have been rife that his next stop could be the saffron front.

Sources in the BJP said Shah would be meeting Rane in New Delhi and Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis may also join them.

It was in April that the rumour mills got working, when Rane travelled to Ahmedabad where Shah and Fadnavis were meeting. Rane had refuted that he met Shah even as BJP state unit president Raosaheb Danve had said that his party's doors were open for all those who wanted to walk in. PWD Minister Chandrakant Patil had then openly stated he was ready to give his portfolio to Rane if he joined BJP.

A senior minister in the Fadnavis cabinet said the chief minister would be going for a reshuffle soon after Dussehra (September 30) and the induction of Rane into BJP would also take place on October 1 or on Dussehra.

One of Rane's confidantes told DNA that Shah would ensure Rane's induction into the party and the programme would be held in Mumbai.

Rane wants to get Shah to inaugurate Lifetime medical college and hospital in Sindhudurg, an initiative of Sindhudurg Shikshan Prasarak Mandal founded by him, if Prime Minister Narendra Modi is unable to make it.

Rane is expected to announce his future course of action after his meeting with Shah. According to sources, Rane is eying a berth for himself in Delhi and one for his son Nitesh in the state cabinet.
