Hours after former chief minister Ashok Chavan was declared as the chief of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee on Monday, his rival Narayan Rane public came out in the open to express his unhappiness over the move.

Former industry minister Rane said the party high command didn't consult any of the state leaders before zeroing on Chavan. Rane said he would raise his voice against the decision and set a precedent.

On his part, Chavan didn't retaliate Rane. In the past too, Rane had objected to appointment of Chavan as the state's chief minister.

While replacing state unit president Manikrao Thakare with Chavan, the All India Congress Committee also affected change of guards at the Mumbai Regional Congress Committee by replacing Janardan Chandurkar with Sanjay Nirupam. Rane criticized Nirupam's appointment too, saying that that the latter was not a Maharashtrian.

Rane, however, on Tuesday indicated that he would not be as aggressive as he was on Monday and said that he would talk to other leaders in the party after coming back from China tour on Sunday.

Making it clear that his China visit was a personal trip, Rane said that if no one has so far spoken against such appointments, he would set a precedent by raising his voice against the move.

Meanwhile, Chavan, who is also a Lok Sabha MP, left for Delhi to attend proceedings of the Budget Session on Wednesday.
