They practised hip hop and B-boying for hours on streets, in parks and dilapidated buildings in Nalasopara with an aim to make their presence felt worldwide, even when Vasai taluka itself knew little about these dance forms. And now, all that hard work is finally shining through as the youths have created history by standing third in the World Hip Hop Championship held in the US.

The Kings United group beat defending champions Brotherhood from Canada on Sunday night, securing third position in the competition held in California's Harrah Resort. The contest, which saw over 50 countries participating, was won by the New Zealand group, followed by Philippines.

Kings United has been formed by Suresh Mukund, the founder of Fictitious group that won India's Got Talent. Fictitious group, formed by Suresh and Vernon Monteiro, split during the release of the movie ABCD 2, which is based on their lives. Monteiro got his own crew, while Suresh chose to move on with his former colleagues.

"The practise sessions were difficult as we had to rehearse under leaking roofs and in inadequate space, but we managed to finish them in 20 days. However, two members were injured and this made things difficult," said Jaydeep Sisodiya, group manager.

"Also, flight tickets got cancelled and then other arrangements had to be made, or we would not have been able to reach the venue on time."

Calling the victory a landmark for Indian dancers, Suresh told dna, "In India, people try to imitate foreign hip hop dancers, but we fused Indian culture with the dance and were appreciated for that. This is the first time India has reached this far. We will participate again and secure the first position."

"The boys used to practise for 11 hours a day in inadequate space; today, they have made India proud. The achievement is a landmark and we are waiting for their return to hold a grand celebration in Vasai taluka," said Suresh's father Gangaram.

"Suresh chose to not join my business as he was passionate about dance and we supported him throughout, especially when he used to participate in dance reality shows."
