Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan is enthusiastic about the modern township plan which is to be developed in Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (Naina) by planing agency Cidco. The NAINA is bigger than Mumbai city with all modern facilities, claimed Chavan.

He assured that the project affected persons (PAPs) will be well taken care of by the state as the land acquisition for airport project is in its last lag.

Chavan assured that PAPs will be looked after by the state as its model of rehabilitation is one of the best in the country. "We have the one of the best rehabilitation model in practice in the state. In fact what Cidco has done in Navi Mumbai can be an example for other states," said Chavan during the inauguration ceremony of exhibition centre in Vashi.

Cidco which is special planning authority for NAINA has planned to develop a modern township. It has taken up the pilot project of 38 sq km on the 600 sq km of the NAINA, close to the new airport in Panvel taluka for the development of modern township. Naina model requires the participation of people who will get developed spaces, along with compensatory floor space index (FSI), in return for the land they give up.

Chavan claimed NAINA will emerge as bigger city than Mumbai and will have all modern facilities facilities. "NAINA has 20% more area than Mumbai and it has facilities like airport, raiwalys, 10-lane highway among others," said Chavan.

The NAINA will increase the boundaries of Navi Mumbai. "The boundaries of Navi Mumbai that had been till Panvel so far, has now reached Khopoli and Karjat. Several developers have already purchased land there, and are waiting for the planning agency to carry out development," said a real estate observor.
