On January 24, it will be five years since the divine voice of Pandit Bhimsen Joshi left us. To mark the legend's death anniversary, Artyfx has organised a special concert, where Anand Bhate and Rahul Deshpande will pay a tribute to the icon.

A senior disciple of Panditji and one of the most loved voices, Anand Bhate told dna, "What else can one offer in tribute to a maestro so senior?" Bhate, also known as Anand Gandharva, is a Hindustani classical vocalist of the Kirana Gharana. He is popular for his classical renditions of songs from Marathi movie Balgandharva.

Bhate made his first public appearance in 1981, when he performed Balgandharva's gayaki on the All India Radio. He went on to perform all over India and abroad in many prestigious music conferences, such as Sawai Gandharva Sangeet Mahotsav, Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki Sangeet Samaroha, Learnquest Music Conference, and so on.

A recipient of numerous awards, Bhate also has numerous published albums to his credit. He said he was humbled to be performing in tribute to his guru. "He has left such a wealth of learning in music, that several lifetimes will not enough to learn it all."

The other artiste, Rahul Deshpande, is currently the toast of the season, thanks to his playback for the mega-hit classical themed Katyar Kaljat Ghusli. He has, however, enjoyed a huge fan following since his childhood.

The grandson of the late Patiala gharana legend Pandit Vasantrao Deshpande, who is known for his eclectic and electric style, said he was honoured to be performing at the concert. "One is talking about one of the giants of Indian classical music whose voice, style and range leaves one mesmerised every time one listens to his recordings. It is no surprise that his following has only been growing."

Meanwhile, Abhishek Tendulkar of Dadaratithya, under whose aegis the concert is being organised, said, "The Shivaji Park katta, which began as an informal group of friends with a strong desire to work for change has led to the formation of ArtyFx, which has organised this concert. Vaibhav Kapadi, Aditya Gupte and me hail from different backgrounds and possess different experience. The only thing common is our motivation to help people break their monotonous routine and celebrate the beautiful in life.

When: 8.30pm, January 24
Where: Veer Savarkar Auditorium, Shivaji Park
