A day after 100 municipal schoolchildren from the city wrote open letters to additional municipal commissioner Vikas Kharge, giving innovative ideas on cleanliness, 50 students of Khar Danda municipal school recorded short video messages for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where they talked about their participation and support to the clean India drive by keeping their school and locality clean.

Students from Stds VI to VII of Hindi and Marathi medium participated in the programme organised by the NGO Citizens Association for Child Rights (CACR) on the concluding day of the cleanliness week, also observed as World Toilet Day.

HR college students interacted with the students to record the individual and group messages.

The children also participated in games from the UNICEF project WASH (water sanitation hygiene). The games focussed on the importance of washing hands, as a vital aspect of maintaining hygiene.

Besides this, the Mahatma Gandhi Centre for Sanitation, Cleanliness and Community Health released a booklet for schoolchildren on the 'ten commandments' based on the themes of Swachch Bharat in schools — Clean Self, Clean Schools, Clean Surroundings, Clean Water, Clean Food, Clean Toilets. The booklet, which will be printed in English, Hindi and Marathi, will be distributed in civic schools and be available for other schools as well.

The pocket booklet was released in Nityanand School, Andheri, by Mansi Apte, deputy education Officer of BMC.
