Amboli police have arrested three persons, including a maths teacher from Mumbra, for allegedly leaking SSC question papers. The teacher, who was also an exam conductor, used to click photographs of question papers on his mobile phone and circulate it ahead to students in exchange for money, the police alleged.

Those arrested are Ambernath residents and teacher Feroz Abdul Majid Khan (47), Imran Suleiman Sheikh (45) and Mumbai Central resident Anwarul Anjarul Hasan Sheikh (21).

According to the police, they were tipped off by a teacher from MVM Swami Muktanand High School in Andheri (W), which is also an SSC examination centre.

On Monday, Social Science (73) and History-Political Science (Paper-1) exams were scheduled at the school from 11 am till 1 pm.

"Around 10.35 am, the complainant saw three students surfing their mobile phones and reading books. Finding their behaviour suspicious, the teacher confronted them which frightened the students. The teacher then took the mobile phone of a student, and pictures of the question papers with the N 246 code," said a police source.

The students were allowed to give the exams, but he confiscated the cellphone. "After completion of exam, the student told the school staff that a friend had shared the picture if the paper, via WhatsApp, at around 10.26 am on Monday. They were part of a group called 'Board Ke Imp', which was later deleted," said the officer.

The school staff informed the Board, after which the student and his parents were called by the cops and a case was registered.

"Our probe revealed that Feroz is the main culprit behind this leak," said police inspector Daya Nayak from Amboli Police Station. "We are yet to seize the mobile phone used to click the photographs. Feroz also runs Brilliant Coaching Classes in Ambernath, which has 31 SSC students and the possibility of him having leaked paper to them cannot be ruled out. As of now nine SSC papers have gone and there is high possibility that those papers too could be leaked by this group," said police inspector Daya Nayak from Amboli Police Station.

How papers got leaked?

Feroz Khan works at Kings Paradise School in Mumbra, which is also an SSC examination centre. "Feroz was a conductor and used to get blocks of question papers by 9.15 am. He would photograph them and send them to another teacher and an engineering student, who would forward them. Feroz used to charge Rs 500 from each student, per paper. Feroz was also arrested in 2015 in a sodomy case. We have so far seized 12 mobile phones with question papers," said a police source.
