Tata Power conducted a massive beach clean-up drive at Malad’s Marve Beach with the help of five schools in the Malwani area: Malvani Utkarsha Vidyalaya, Bharatmata School, Dayasagar School, Rosemary High School, Gurukul High School and Gurukul Junior College, in addition to 30 of their own employees.

Lalit Neve from Tata Power shared, “There were around 85 students together, who started cleaning the beaches early in the morning. The children have done a remarkable job of cleaning the beaches. In fact, the BMC dust bins had to be emptied and returned to us at least 20 times because there was so much trash!” Neve went on to even express his gratitude to the P/North ward for their relentless support during all the hours they spent on the beach.

A teacher from Malwani Utkarsh Vidyalaya, which was also part of the drive, shared, “We have been participating in the beach cleaning activities since the past six years and this year, we are doing it along with Tata Power. Twenty-five of my students are participating in this activity and all of them are doing a good job.”

The students were asked to pick up the garbage from the beach, which mainly included floral offerings that would be segregated later. The students put all the garbage in the dust bins that were provided by the BMC.

SPECIAL MENTION:

H/West ward (Bandra, Santacruz and Khar) sets an example

H/West ward's Solid Waste Management (SWM) department has been doing  phenomenal work when it comes to ensuring eco-friendly activities. During the Mount Mary festival and Ganesh festivities, this year, the SWM department collected all the 'nirmalaya' from the entire ward, which included flowers, fruits, coconuts, clothes, incense, camphor and other offerings. This was then segregated and all the flowers were sent for composting at the ward's Nirmalya Composting station at Bandra Reclamation.
