Dipping temperatures won’t play spoilsport during your New Year celebrations. Citizens can plan their night out on New Year’s day without fearing the cold.

The weathermen predict that after experiencing the coldest day in a decade, the minimum temperature is on an upward swing.

“The minimum temperature is expected to increase in the next 48 days. The temperature will slightly rise and come to the average normal temperature,” said VK Rajeev, director, India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The minimum temperature throughout the week hovered 11 to 13 degree Celsius. However, the IMD states that the temperature in the next few days will rise to 14-15 degree Celsius. The minimum temperature on Tuesday dipped to a decade low of 11.4 degree Celsius.

The minimum temperature on Friday was 14.6 degree Celsius recorded at Santa Cruz weather station. The maximum temperature here stood at 32.5 degree Celsius. The Colaba weather station recorded minimum temperature of 19 degree Celsius and the maximum temperature stood at 31.6 degree Celsius.

IMD officials state that the minimum temperature at present is two degrees below the normal temperature of the city. And the maximum temperature is two degrees above the normal temperature. “The minimum temperature at Colaba weather station is one degree below the normal and the minimum at Santa Cruz is two degrees below the normal. The maximum temperature is just two degrees above the normal at both Colaba and Santa Cruz,” the official stated.

“The normal temperature is also on an upward swing. We are expecting the chill in the air to slightly reduce. But the weather will continue to be pleasant as the maximum temperature is expected to be stable at 31 degrees without much variation,” added Rajeev.

The IMD officials explained that the variations in the temperature are not due to the cyclone threat in the southern coast.

“The cyclone in the southern coast has no significance with the temperature fluctuating here. Also the city coast does not have any cyclonic threat,” he added.
