A specially designed bright red T shirt, a 'fish-n-ice' cake and a birthday song on Friday morning ringed in the second year of Mr Molt, the most adored penguin from Mumbai’s Veermata Jijabai Bhosale (VJB) zoo.

"He is the youngest and the naughtiest of the lot and has this charm about him. We are celebrating his birthday for the first time since he came to Mumbai from Seoul,” said Dr Madhumita Kale, veterinarian in-charge of the penguin enclosure.

Dr Kale added that they got a T shirt specially designed for the 'birthday boy' and a special cake. "We had a fish frozen in water as a cake and he seemed to love it. However as soon as he entered the pool for his swim he got rid of his T shirt and we did not put it back again," Kale said adding that the birthday was celebrated between 8.30 am and 9.30 am just before the enclosure opened up to visitors.

Eight penguins arrived from Coex Aquarium in South Korea’s capital Seoul in July 2016, but one of the penguins died in October due to a bacterial infection while in quarantine.

The surviving penguins, Bubble, Olive, Daisy, Flipper, Popeye, Donald and Mr Molt were shifted in the 1,800 sq feet Penguin enclosure in March 2017.
