VP Road police have arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly assaulting his mother brutally after she refused to give him money for drugs. The accused not only attacked his mother but forcibly snatched her ornaments worth Rs 90,000 to buy drugs.

The arrested person has been identified as Amir Sameer Shaikh, a resident of Rajkotwala Building at VP Road.

According to the police, on Tuesday afternoon, Shaikh came home under the influence of drugs and demanded money from his mother for drugs. When the victim refused to give the money, Shaikh abused her, assaulted her and forcibly snatched her earring which resulted in oozing of blood from her ear.

"The victim then cried for help, but by then Shaikh had fled the place with her ornaments. The victim then informed her mother-in-law and called her home. They first went to the police station and then to JJ Hospital where the victim received seven stitches due to the wound she had sustained," said a police officer.

The police then registered a case under sections 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of the peace) against Shaikh.

We are yet to recover the stolen articles from Shaikh. We are also probing if Shaikh has any criminal history," the officer said.
