Surprisingly, there is no CCTV footage of the incident as the camera at the spot is not working for the past one month.
Dipali Lahamate, a dentist from Nair Dental College, who was grievously injured in a hit-and-run accident at Marine Lines, passed away on Friday evening of multiple organ failures.
Lahamate had been on ventilator support since March 24, the day of the accident. While she was on her way to JJ Hospital Gymkhana to attend her brother's convocation ceremony, a speeding Honda city hit her following which she fell and sustained severe head injuries. The Marine Drive police booked the driver Shikha Jhaveri on charges of rash driving and causing grievous injury, however, Jhaveri was released on bail. Lahamate's kin had alleged that it was a hit-and-run case as Jhaveri tried to escape the spot however she was stopped by a passerby.
Meanwhile, Nair Hospital Dental College's Student Association put up a Facebook post in search of witnesses in the case and have also started an online petition seeking justice. "We are shocked with her death. She had come from a small town, Rajur in Ahemadnagar and wanted to do so many things for society," said Manish Padmane, a friend of Lahamate.

"We have started the online petition for justice and are surprised to learn that the camera is not working on such a VIP road. How can the accused be immediately released on bail? The police should take immediate action against the driver," said a friend of Lahamate.
After the death of Lahamate, the Marine Drive police have now started the process of adding more sections in the FIR against Jhaveri and is likely to re-arrest her. "We will add a section for causing death due to negligence and probing the matter further," said Vilas Gangawane, Senior Police Inspector of Marine Drive Police Station.
