Mumbai: Woman jumps off Versova building

A 56-year-old woman allegedly jumped to her death after falling from a high rise building in Oshiwara. As per the police reports, the deceased identified as Vanita Luthra was suffering from depression and was also hallucinating frequently because of financial pressures due to which she took the extreme step of ending her life.

According to the police sources, Luthra was a resident of Versova area and for her living, she used to give her Lokhandwala based shop for rent to exhibition organizers who approached her for a place to conduct exhibition and sale of different products. "Luthra was unmarried and was survived by none in the city as her sister lives in the United States of America. As per the preliminary investigation, the cops discovered that in the recent times, Luthra was hallucinating out of the fear that everyone she knew had planned a conspiracy to kill her and make her suffer financial losses. Some of the people she knew said that she always seemed tensed and under panic.

"On Saturday, Luthra went to her friend's house in Sorrento building at the ninth floor with a travel bag which she intended to keep there. She was later asked by her friend's husband to come later as she was not there and then Luthra went to the 23 rd floor of the building where she found a sliding glass window which was narrowly open and she jumped from there." said a police officer.

"Luthra was under heavy debt and the bank had also sealed her flat. We are awaiting the medical reports to ascertain whether there was any foul play behind the act. We are also checking if she was undergoing any medical treatment to get her hallucinations cured. As of now we have registered an accidental death report in the case and further investigation in the matter is underway." the officer added.
