If you happened to be at Chowpatty on Saturday evening, the sight of a few hundred bloodied teenagers clad in stained, strange clothes and gliding across in a dazed manner would have caught you by surprise.

In a unique initiative, students from several colleges participated in a ‘Zombie Walk’, a campaign to protest against hunger. Hosted by Wilson College, this ‘army’ of students walked their way like zombies from the Wilson College gate to Chowpatty. The participating colleges included St. Xavier’s, KC, HR, Hinduja and Jai Hind.

“We organised the zombie walk in an attempt to go against the status quo, putting aside selfish motive and desires by contributing to society in a fight against hunger in India,’’ said Namita Shah, an FYBA student from Wilson College, who was a part of the march.

Pedestrians who witnessed the march were befuddled by the sight. “I was walking towards cream centre when I saw some people dressed in weird clothes and walking very slowly along Chowpatty,” said Meera Asodkar, a passerby.

Nathaniel Mookhtiar, PR head of Wilson College, explained that the march aimed at creating awareness about the direction Indian society was headed to with atrocities occurring daily. “The march was like a statement made by the youth of our country...that we too can make a difference,’’ said Mookhtiar.
