Mumbai University to host 102nd Indian Science Congress

The University of Mumbai is going to host the 102nd Indian Science Congress from January 3 to 7 next year. The theme of the influential congruence this year is 'Science and Technology for Human Development'. The inaugural ceremony will be attended by prime minister Narendra Modi at the university's Kalina campus. Leading scientists, scholars and eminent laureates have also been invited to the event.

At a press conference held in Fort by the varsity on Wednesday, Dr Rajan Welukar, vice-chancellor, MU, said, "Mumbai should not only be considered as a commercial hub, but also as a city which can contribute to the field of science and research. There has always been an imbalance in the availability of resources to the growing world. This imbalance needs to be speedily rectified in innovative ways by scientists, researchers, other academicians, policy makers and the government. With over 10,000 intelligent minds converging at the Science Congress to share and debate ideas, wise, practical, easy-to-implement solutions will certainly emerge."

The parallel sessions and plenary discussions will be inclusive of 18 inter-disciplinary exchanges to widen the scope of the conference. The establishment is also planing to web-telecast some of the important sessions held during the symposium to enhance its reach.
