Mumbai: Two Shikhalkar gang members held in Rs 26 lakh robbery case

Bhushi Singh (32) alias Sardar Shikalkara, a resident of Bhiwandi, and Vicky Singh Kalyani (26), a resident of Hadaspar in Pune, have been arrested; two of their accomplices are absconding.

The Valiv police, who come under the Palghar police department, have arrested two members of the dreaded Shikhalkar gang, along with a jeweller, in connection with a Rs26-lakh robbery at a Vasai jewellery store. The two have a total of 48 cases against them in various districts of Maharashtra and Gujarat.

Bhushi Singh (32) alias Sardar Shikalkara, a resident of Bhiwandi, and Vicky Singh Kalyani (26), a resident of Hadaspar in Pune, have been arrested; two of their accomplices are absconding. The jeweller, Monu Sanjay Sheth (24), has been held for accepting stolen valuables and ornaments worth Rs14,07,626, which have been recovered by the police. They were arrested after a CCTV camera captured them breaking into Moti jewellery store in Vasai (East) on July 29.

"The gang is known to strike jewellery stores and are dreaded criminals. Singh has 32 cases against him while Kalyani has been named in 16," said a Valiv police officer.

"Both are members of the Shikhalkar gang and known for such activities. They recce an area and then strike without fear of the law. The CCTV camera captured them with their faces uncovered. We traced them with the help of informers and recovered the valuables from the jeweller they had sold the booty to,"said an officer.

"We have arrested them under sections 454 (house breaking), 457 (house breaking at night to commit offence) and 380 (theft in dwelling house, etc) of the Indian Penal Code; we will arrest the other accused soon," said Shrikrishna Kokate, additional superintendent of the Palghar police.
