Two teenage boys were saved from drowning at Aksa beach on Sunday morning.

The duo, identified as Tushar Pawar (15) and Shubham Vishwakarma (17), are residents of Rathodi village in Malad west. They visited the beach with a group of friends and waded into the water but were swept in.

"We warned them not to venture deep in the sea due to rising water levels during high tide. But they paid no heed, " said a lifeguard.

When they started drowning, their friends, who did not venture into the sea, fled the spot out of fear. They were rescued by lifeguards stationed at the beach who performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on them.

While Vishwakarma was declared safe, Pawar was rushed to the civic-run Shatabdi Hospital, as the water got trapped in his lungs making breathing difficult. He is currently undergoing medical treatment and is in a stable condition.
