Two cases have been registered by the Worli Police with regard to college goers being harassed on social media. In one of the cases, the tormentor went on to share obscene photographs with the victim over Whatsapp. Both cases still remain undetected.

According to the police, a couple of days ago, a college student had approached them stating that someone had been sending her obscene photographs of an unknown male on her WhatsApp number. A case under sections 354D (stalking) and 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and section 67A (Punishment for publishing or transmitting material containing sexually explicit content, etc in electronic form) of Information Technology Act under the Indian Penal Code was registered by the police against unknown people.

"Recently we received another complaint wherein another college student approached us stating that someone had opened a bogus Twitter account and had put her photographs on the said account and had made objectionable posts on it. A case under the Indian Penal Code sections 419 (Punishment for cheating by impersonation) and 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and Information Technology Act sections 67 (Punishment for publishing or transmitting of material containing sexually explicit act, etc in electronic form) and 66D (Punishment for cheating by impersonation by using computer resource) was filed," said an officer from the Worli Police Station.
