Mumbai: Tree authority yet to get an expert

The process to nominate independent expert to the Tree Committee of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) stalled for at least a month. The proposal could not be passed in the tree authority meeting as it did not have adequate quorum. The meeting was scheduled to be held on Friday.

Following, the Bombay High Court order, the BMC initiated the process to nominate independent expert to the tree authority. A total 37 such experts from the city applied for the post, of which five of them were selected by the administration.

According to official from the municipal secretary department, at least five members are required for quorum. By the time, the meeting was supposed to start, only two members were present.

The next hearing is scheduled on Tuesday where the the civic administration has to submit report on appointment of independent expert in the tree authority.
