Mumbai: Transgender rape complaint lodged after a year

According to the complaint filed by the victim, she was drugged, assaulted and raped by over 16 people who disguised themselves as transgenders on tracks near the Khar railway station on a gunpoint.

The Nirmal Nagar police have finally registered a case of rape against the 16 accused in the rape of a 28-year-old transgender who had approached the police over a year ago.

The case has been transferred to the Bandra Railway police.

According to the complaint filed by the victim, she was drugged, assaulted and raped by over 16 people who disguised themselves as transgenders on tracks near the Khar railway station on a gunpoint. The FIR states that in December 2016, the 16 accused were taking drugs on the railway tracks stopped her and started asking money from her. When the victim denied giving the money, the accused assaulted her. 

Additionally, they also forced her to take drugs on gunpoint. Later, they raped her one by one. The FIR further states that her jewellery was taken.

"I immediately approached the police but they did not register the case and ignored me completely. With the help of a NGO, I followed up with the police and finally the case was registered two weeks ago. However, there has been no progress in the case and the accused are still not arrested," the victim said.
