Suburban and outstation trains on the Western Railway line in Mumbai have started moving but with restrictions as major damage was caused to its overhead electrical equipment, tracks, sleepers switchover points and more.

On Tuesday morning, a seven compartments of a Churchgate -bound fast local train derailed around 200 metres outside platform number 5 of Andheri station, with track pins getting broken and eventually the switchover point getting damaged.

At the incident spot, railway officials are now ascertaining the cause of the mishap. At the incident site, right outside Parle Factory between Andheri and Vile Parle, people who had gathered were dispersed by the railway police, however crowds continued to hamper traffic movement.

Outstation trains and slow suburban services have started moving but at a curtailed speed due to presence of public.

Re-railing work has commenced with railway officers beginning to get materials to the site to start replacing the damaged tracks but officials at the incident location are tight-lipped about when normal services will resume.
