While the Pune education department has come out with a timetable for admissions to the first-year junior colleges (FYJC), the Mumbai education department will take one more week to hold a meeting and declare the timetable to start the FYJC admissions for the upcoming academic year.

It seems the Bombay high court's suggestion to the education department to improve the online admission process of FYJC has delayed the admission process for students.

While Pune is due to start working on admission processes, such as training teachers, distributing admission handbooks to students, online registration from May 25 till June 9, the deputy director of school education (Mumbai), claimed that students will get handbooks soon. The department will also give training to teachers in filling forms online, but the date of all these processes for Mumbai will be declared after a week.

BD Phadtare, deputy director school education, said, "Soon after we start the FYJC online admissions process, the students will be given a week's time to fill the registration forms. But the process will not start unless and until the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) board results are declared."

Nonetheless, Mumbai city colleges have registered for online admissions. The department has released statistics of the intake capacity in junior colleges. The data show the intake capacity for Arts, Science and Commerce has increased this year compared to the last. (see box).
