In order to make the Ganpati procession smooth and hassle-free on road, the metro authority will be shifting the barricades used during metro construction work across the city, wherever it is necessary to give more space to vehicles.

The request was accepted after the Brihanmumbai Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Samanvay Samiti (BSGSS), an umbrella body of Ganpati mandals in the city had a meeting with the BMC authority and metro officers on Friday. The body had raised the issue of lack of space on roads while bringing the Ganpati idols in the pandal and also during the immersion procession.

Speaking about the issue, Naresh Dahibhavkar, president of BSGSS, said, "We have been raising the issue of roads getting narrow due to the ongoing construction work with the authority since few days. This year, the size of the roads have narrowed due to the infrastructural work. During the procession of bringing the Ganpati idol in the pandal and also on the immersion day, it will be a mess. The metro authority did a spot visit on Saturday and have finally agreed to take the barricades behind and also fill up the potholes caused due to an installation of the barricades."

According to the BSGSS several roads like Thakurdwar, Lamington Road, Grant Road, Mumbai Central, Jacob Circle, Worli Naka, Gokhale Road, Ranade Road, and Shitaladevi Mandir road are few of the locations where barricades will be moved behind for the 11 days festival which will start from September 13.

A statement by MMRC spokesperson, said, "We have agreed the request to locally amend some of the traffic regulatory barriers that don't affect any of our ongoing works so that processions can be carried out smoothly."

One of the officials from MMRDA that is executing four metro projects, said, "Our metro barricades don't need to move behind because we are working on the center of the road and not besides. Only a few locations we are constructing on side-ways, but that won't be a problem."
