Mumbai to host the grand finale for hip-hop dance face-off

The contest, created by Anjan Sivakumar and introduced to India in 2012, selects one winning crew who will represent India at the World Hip Hop Dance Championship in San Diego, US, which is considered the Olympics of Dance where 55 nations compete with each other to win the title of World's Best Dancer.

The Indian Hip Hop Dance Championship will be holding its grand finale at Inorbit Mall in Malad. Teams from 15 states competed and the one that wins will be representing India at the International Hip Hop Dance Competition in the United States of America. 10,000 qualifying teams will battle it out from May 27t to 30.

The contest, created by Anjan Sivakumar and introduced to India in 2012, selects one winning crew who will represent India at the World Hip Hop Dance Championship in San Diego, US, which is considered the Olympics of Dance where 55 nations compete with each other to win the title of World's Best Dancer.

Sivakumar, who has an expertise in various dance styles, had a vision to spread hip hop culture in India. He started his dance school, Choreo Culture and his company Anjan Events and Productions. Therefore, he introduced the Indian Hip Hop Dance Championship for the first time under this banner. He acquired the Hip Hop International licence in the year 2012 and since then there has been no looking back.

Sivakumar said, "We aim to create a strong career path for talented dancers who otherwise opt for offbeat careers due to lack of opportunities. In the next couple of years, we aim to work towards providing a stable career path for talented dancers to come up and be on top in the field of Dance & Fitness."

In 2012, when Indian hip hop Dance Championship was introduced for the first time in India, Hip hop dance enthusiasts arrived from all over India to compete in order to win the title of India's best dance crew. Some dancers struggled their way to the event without being able to find a place to rest their heads, a few even finding refuge in the railway station platform. One of them was the Fictitious Crew from Nala Supara Mumbai who won the hearts of audiences and judges with their jaw-dropping stunts and electrifying power moves.

Filtered down from 300 registered entries, judged by one of the renowned choreographers of Britains got talent, Liara Barussi, Fictitious crew won the 1st Indian Hip Hop Dance Championship title.They went beyond Indian reality TV shows and tried their hand at an international level.

From over 68 crews in the World Championship they qualified to the semi finals, and again out of 31 crews to the finals to reach the World Finals among 8 Crews, thereby making India proud by being the first ever nation to reach the World finals at its first entry into the World Hip hop Dance Championship. This became viral in no time and today this story is being made as a major Hindi Feature Film, Any Body Can Dance 2.

In 2013, Mumbai based crew 13.13 and in 2014, I am hip hop crew represented India in World Hip Hop Dance Championship.
