In this year's state budget, funds were allocated for projects involved in augmenting the areas in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The Railway Board has taken a step towards it as it approved halts for local trains at Umbermali station between Kasara and Khardi. Until now, Umbermali simply had two platforms and a station master's office.

The station will also have other amenities like FOBs, food stalls, roof over the platforms, fans and lights etc.

"We had been demanding for this for a long time now. It had been a struggle for the locals here who had to either go to Kasara or Khardi station," said Rajesh Gangav, president of Kalyan-Kasara-Karjat Passenger Association.
Both these stations are more than 3 kms apart. The locals staying between Asangaon and Kasara had demanded for two stations --- Umbermali and Tanshet to be included in Mumbai suburban section.

Meanwhile, the budget will also provide funds for MUTP-3A which revolves around growth of MMR including additional rail lines between Kalyan-Asangaon and Kalyan-Badlapur.
